Waiting for a Visit
‘Waiting for a Visit’ by John Crompton (1854 – 1927) is a very important
Victorian painting executed in oil on canvas in the large 19th century. This
work of art will adorn the front cover of the Autumn Issue of the Perry’s
Real Estate magazine out next Sunday with the Sunday Times.
John Crompton was a fine landscape and figure artist, principal of the
Heatherely’s School of Art from 1988 to 1908, he exhibited extensively and
is represented at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of
British Artists, Manchester City Art Gallery, Royal Society of Arts
Birmingham and many others.
‘Waiting for a Visit’ is a Victorian Painting, executed in oil on canvas
in the late 19th century when the artist flourished.
This beautiful and inspiring painting previously formed part of the
private collection of Christopher Wood, a great connoisseur of Victorian art
who in 1979 owned the Christopher Wood Art Gallery in Belgravia, London.
The painting was brought over to Malta and personally chosen by Mr.
Francis Spiteri Paris ‘it transports one back in time, yet it transcends
time as one can still evoke this very image in many of our beautiful old
houses in Valletta or the villages. The architecture is superb, the genre is

The painting will be exhibited at the offices of Perry Ltd. on Tower
Road, Sliema and may be viewed by the general public.
